چکیده

Morphing skins as structural component in shape adaptive wings are still their early development phase, they need to combine contradicting requirements, such extreme anisotropic mechanical behaviour, low thickness and air-tightness. Various morphing skin approaches have been designed for confined problems camber load scenarios. However, expand the applicability of wings, a with full in-plane deformability an out-of-plane stiffness suitable manned aircraft is necessary. In this work, novel, elastomer free layered designed, manufactured, applied transition region small analysed. The based on stacked, stiff platelets contributing stiffness, while compliant ligaments connecting provide compliance. Therefore, shows orthotropy can independently deform both directions initial modulus 198 kPa. Deformation analysis confirms bi-axial strains span chord up 10% 16%, respectively. Conducted pressure tests indicate high enough aircraft, despite demonstrator being manufactured from polymer. concept promising base bi-directionally deformable skins.

Active inflatable auxetic honeycomb structural concept for morphing wingtips

This paper describes a new concept of an active honeycomb structure for morphing wingtip applications based on tubular inflatable systems and an auxetic cellular structure. A work-energy model to predict the output honeycomb displacement versus input pressure is developed together with a finite element formulation, and the results are compared with the data obtained from a small-scale example o...

an infinite planar array of rectangular microstrip patch antenna analysis

the methods which are used to analyze microstrip antennas, are divited into three categories: empirical methods, semi-empirical methods and full-wave analysis. empirical and semi-empirical methods are generally based on some fundamental simplifying assumptions about quality of surface current distribution and substrate thickness. thses simplificatioms cause low accuracy in field evaluation. ful...

Design of Compliant Mechanisms for Morphing Structural Shapes

Various compliant mechanism synthesis methods have been developed over the past decade; however, very little attention has been directed towards adaptive shape change problems. In this paper, we present a systematic method for synthesizing compliant mechanisms to morph a given curve or profile into a target curve utilizing minimum number of actuators (typically one). Two objective functions are...

Polarizability analysis of canonical dielectric and bi-anisotropic scatterers

Solutions for simple, canonical problems are important in electromagnetics, because they can be often utilized in more complicated problems. This thesis consists of analyses of some basic canonical objects and fundamental principles of electromagnetic theory. One of the fundamental objects analyzed in this thesis is an ellipsoid, and especially a layered ellipsoid. Although it is a basic and cl...
